A tradie is sent to your home

A qualified emergency plumber, electrician or locksmith will arrive at your door usually within the hour.

We’ll assess the problem and take action

Most of the time, we fix the problem on the spot. When we can’t, we might use temporary measures to make the area safe.

If your home emergency can’t be fixed on the spot, you'll be offered a free, no-obligation quote to consider. 

Emergency trade services

Our service includes up to one hour of labour plus minor parts and materials.

Blocked toilet, pipe or drain
Blocked toilets, pipes or drains causing overflow or backup, stopping water flowing through the outlet.

Broken tap or shower
When a leaking shower or broken tap is causing damage to your home or property, or substantial water wastage (excludes dripping taps and shower heads).

Burst pipe
Significant water wastage or water damage to your property or house due to a burst pipe.

Faulty or burst hot water system
If your hot water system isn't working because of a gas or electrical issue, or faulty components. This also includes reigniting your hot water heater pilot light.

Internal leaks
Water leaking down your walls or through your ceiling due to blocked downpipes, gutters or roof. If the source of the leak can't be safely accessed, we may need to re-attend.

Broken heating/cooling system
If you're heating or cooling system isn't working because of faulty components, electrical or gas issues, or you are unable to reignite pilot light.

Gas leak
If a gas pipe has been damaged and is leaking inside or outside your home, we'll repair the leak or isolate the gas line to make it safe.

Broken glass
Where home safety or security is threatened as a result of damage to broken glass in an external door or window, we will make safe and clean up. (Excludes glass replacement).

Our service includes up to one hour of labour plus minor parts and materials.

Power or lighting fault
Loss of power to all or part of of your home including electrical faults due to storms or flooding (excludes area-wide power outages and blackouts).

Broken air-conditioning system
If your air-conditioner has stopped working, an RACV electrician will assess the cause of the fault and repair if safe to do so.

Faulty or burst hot water system
When your hot water system fails because of faulty components or electrical issues.

Internal leaks
If you have a ceiling leak coming through a light fitting or fixture we'll isolate power from the affected area.

Our service includes up to one hour of labour plus minor parts and materials.

Locked out
Stepped outside to take out the rubbish and accidentally locked yourself out or broken a key in your door's lock? We'll help you get back inside. 

Jammed external doors or windows
If jammed windows or doors are threatening the safety of your home, we'll make it safe and get you a quote to complete the repair (excludes internal doors).

Some emergencies are more complex and may require a quote for specialist trades and additional or replacement parts.

Is Emergency Home Assist available in my area?

Emergency trade services are available in metro Melbourne and most regional areas in Victoria.

What isn't covered by RACV Emergency Home Assist?

General maintenance and non-urgent repairs are not included in this service. Here are some examples:

  • dripping taps
  • installing or changing light globes
  • installing a new sink, toliet or shower head
  • installing a new hot water system.

I’m a renter. Can I purchase RACV Emergency Home Assist?

RACV Emergency Home Assist (EHA) is not available to tenants, only residential homeowners or their managing agents (including houses, duplexes, flats, units and apartments).

If you think EHA would be handy to have, we suggest speaking to your landlord or managing agent about the benefits of a subscription.
