The amount you insure your contents for (the 'sum insured') should be enough to cover the cost of repairing or replacing your belongings at today's prices.
When calculating your contents sum insured, make sure you include the cost of:
- furniture and appliances
- clothing and linen
- mobile phones, computers and tablets
- internal blinds
- curtains and drapes
- carpets and rugs
- furnishings
- medical items
- toys
- tools (limits apply for tools of trade).
Keep in mind
- If you underinsure your contents, you may be caught short if you have to repair or replace them.
- If you insure your contents for more than it costs to repair or replace them, you'll only be able to claim the actual cost to do so.
You can use our contents calculator to help estimate costs. For a full list of what you can cover, see the Product Disclosure Statement.
