From celebrity vets to speed dating for dog lovers, this show is a big day out.

If your Facebook is filled with snaps of your schnauzer, or you dream of bringing home a harrier hound, the 2019 Dog Lovers Show is for you.

Held at Melbourne’s Royal Exhibition Building on 3 to 5 May, it’s one of the world’s largest dog events. And here are five big reasons to snap up some tickets.

It’s a family day out

From the Dog Art and Craft Area to face painting, aquatic dog shows in the Splashzone (a 100,000-litre pool) and the Insta-pooch red carpet where you can interact with Melbourne’s biggest four-legged Insta stars, the question won’t be ‘what is there to do?’, it’ll be ‘where do we go first?’.

Family members of all ages will be entertained and well and truly get their doggy fix with more than 500 furry friends to interact with.

Give a dog a home

If you’ve been looking for the perfect time to welcome a pet into your family, this may be it.

The Assist Adoption Zone is here to help, with experts from dozens of pet rescue groups on hand to teach you about the adoption process, and to figure out what kind of dog is right for you and your lifestyle.

You can’t take a dog home with you on the day (although you can meet many of the pups looking for a family), but you’ll leave with all the knowledge and contacts you need to make an informed decision.

It’s bigger and better than last year

This year’s Dog Lovers Show is bigger than ever, hosting more than 200 exhibitors and showing off a new Outdoor Arena Zone.

Looking for treats to spoil your glamorous poodle? You can find those. Seeking tips for training your energetic Jack Russell? There are opportunities to learn from the best. Wanting to capture your favourite family member on canvas? There’s an abundance of artists ready and waiting.

And of course, there are talent shows galore and the impressive Breed Showcase with more than 200 dogs and 50 breeds on display.

Treats for humans too

Canines may be the stars of this show, but there are plenty of treats for you too. Food stalls from some of Melbourne’s favourite vendors will line the venue – cheesy woodfired pizzas from 400 Gradi, succulent souvas from the Greek Trojan Yiros, and even a prosecco van.

When you’ve satisfied your hunger, there’s even the chance to find love, with dog-lover speed dating on offer. You’ve already got one thing in common...

Plus, there will be a bunch of specials at pet-friendly accommodation around Victoria on, including competitions for nights away.

Celebrity vets, discounts and DOGA

This year, RACV has its own stand, where you’ll be able to catch a whole range of engaging guest speakers, from Bondi Vet’s Dr Danni Dusek to celebrity vet Dr Lisa Chimes. Catch a performance from the ever-talented Wonderdogs or try a session of DOGA. Yep, that’s yoga, with dogs.

Plus, we’re offering the chance to win an Arlo Pro 2 wireless security camera kit, valued at $799*. We’ll see you there.

The 2019 Dog Lovers Show runs from Friday 3 May to Sunday 5 May at the Royal Exhibition Building, 9.30am to 5pm. RACV members can save up to 30 per cent on tickets
