The new Leapmotor B03X is set to become Australia’s cheapest all-electric SUV, with launch pricing from $29,990 drive-away when it arrives in November 2026.

Competition among affordable electric vehicles continues to intensify in Australia, with the new Leapmotor B03X bringing a new electric small SUV below $30,000 drive-away.

Available in two variants with up to 382km of claimed WLTP range, the compact B03X will compete with, and undercut, other small electric SUVs including the BYD Atto 2, GWM Ora 5 and Jaecoo J5 EV.

The B03X joins Leapmotor’s growing Australian line-up alongside the B10 small SUV and larger C10 medium family SUV – both of which are available with full-electric and hybrid powertrain options – as well as the B05 EV hatchback.

How much does the Leapmotor B03X cost in Australia?

The Leapmotor B03X Style costs $26,990 before on-road costs. A national launch offer prices vehicles in standard Acorn Brown at $29,990 drive-away when purchased and delivered by December 31, 2026, or while stocks last.

The longer-range Design LR costs $30,990 before on-road costs, or $33,990 drive-away under the same launch offer. Premium paint costs an additional $990.

The B03X’s sub-$30,000 drive-away launch price puts a new electric SUV within reach of buyers who may otherwise be comparing smaller electric cars, hybrids or used vehicles.

What cars will the Leapmotor B03X compete with?

The BYD Atto 2, Jaecoo J5 EV and GWM Ora 5 are among the affordable electric SUVs priced below $40,000 that buyers may compare with the new Leapmotor B03X.

The BYD Atto 2 has already attracted strong interest on RACV Car Match, ranking second among the platform’s most-searched cars in RACV data published in August 2026, behind only the smaller BYD Atto 1.

At around $30,000 drive-away, the B03X could also appeal to buyers comparing a new EV with a petrol or hybrid model, or considering replacing a used car.

RACV Motoring Editor Terry Martin said buyers considering the move to electric should look beyond the initial purchase price alone.

“An electric SUV below $30,000 drive-away gives buyers another option at a price where they may also be considering a hybrid or used car,” Martin said.

“Buyers should also consider how they plan to finance the vehicle, how and where they will charge and how far they typically drive. A lower vehicle price can leave more room in the budget for home charging and, where suitable, solar.”

What range does the Leapmotor B03X have?

The Leapmotor B03X Style has a 39.8kWh LFP battery providing up to 292km of claimed WLTP range.

Spending another $4000 on the Design LR increases battery capacity to 53kWh and claimed range to 382km WLTP, an additional 90km.

The electric motor in the Style produces 130kW and 200Nm, while the Design LR increases power to 145kW. Both are front-wheel drive and have a claimed 0-100km/h time of 8.6 seconds.

For buyers who predominantly make shorter trips and have convenient access to home charging, the Style’s lower price may outweigh the need for additional range. Those regularly travelling further from home may place more value on the Design LR’s additional 90km.

How fast can the Leapmotor B03X charge?

Both Leapmotor B03X variants have an 11kW onboard AC charger. Maximum DC charging is 100kW for the Style and 133kW for the Design LR.

Leapmotor says both batteries can charge from 30 to 80 per cent in approximately 16 minutes under optimal conditions.

Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) is also standard and can supply up to 3.3kW to compatible external devices.

What features does the Leapmotor B03X get?

The Leapmotor B03X Style comes standard with a 14.6-inch central touchscreen, 8.8-inch digital instrument cluster, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, satellite navigation and wireless phone charging.

    Other standard equipment includes:

    • automatic climate control
    • six-speaker audio system
    • rear parking sensors
    • rearview camera
    • rain-sensing frameless windscreen wipers
    • NFC and Bluetooth key
    • Leapmotor Connected Services
    • over-the-air software updates
    • roof rails
    • Leap Flex Seats
    • Leap Box rear storage

The infotainment system uses a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8155 processor.

What does the Leapmotor B03X Design LR add?

The $33,990 drive-away Leapmotor B03X Design LR adds a larger 53kWh battery (providing 382km of claimed WLTP range), faster DC charging and several equipment upgrades.

    Additional equipment includes:

    • 18-inch alloy wheels
    • power-folding exterior mirrors
    • Techno Leather seats
    • electrically adjustable driver’s seat
    • heated front seats
    • heated steering wheel
    • 12-speaker surround sound system
    • multi-colour ambient interior lighting

How practical is the Leapmotor B03X?

At 4270mm long and 1810mm wide, the Leapmotor B03X has compact exterior dimensions. It has a 2605mm wheelbase.

Leapmotor says the B03X offers 33 storage spaces throughout the cabin, 475 litres of cargo capacity with the rear seats in use and up to 1315 litres with the rear seats folded.

Martin said exterior dimensions and quoted luggage capacity don’t always show how practical a vehicle will be for an individual buyer, particularly as electric vehicles can benefit from different packaging, including front storage or a frunk and a flat floor without a transmission tunnel.

“A bigger vehicle doesn’t necessarily mean more usable luggage space, as clever packaging can make a real difference,” he said.

“Boot capacity is a useful guide, but buyers should also consider the shape and accessibility of the space, including any front storage or frunk, and check the vehicle in person against what they regularly carry, particularly bulky or awkward items.”

What safety features does the Leapmotor B03X have?

Seven airbags and LEAP Pilot Level 2 driver assistance technology are standard across the Leapmotor B03X range.

The Leapmotor B03X has not yet been assessed by ANCAP and does not have an ANCAP safety rating.

Leapmotor says the B03X has 21 advanced driver assistance functions, including:

    • Autonomous Emergency Braking
    • Adaptive Cruise Control
    • Lane Centering Control
    • Lane Keep Assist
    • Traffic Jam Assist
    • Blind Spot Detection
    • Front and Rear Cross Traffic Alert with braking assistance
    • Driver Attention Monitoring

The Design LR adds front parking sensors, side collision sensors and a 360-degree camera system.

“We’ll need to assess how well the B03X’s driver assistance systems operate on Australian roads, and how refined they are in everyday driving across suburban and regional roads, once we’re able to drive the vehicle locally,” Martin said.

What warranty does the Leapmotor B03X have?

Leapmotor’s Australian ownership package includes a six-year/150,000km vehicle warranty and an eight-year/160,000km high-voltage battery warranty, which compares favourably with competitor brands at affordable price points.
