2027 Mercedes-Benz CLA Shooting Brake: price, specs and release date in Australia
The unique Mercedes-Benz CLA Shooting Brake returns to Australia in January 2027, led by the first all-electric version available to buy. Priced from $72,990 plus on-road costs, the Mercedes-Benz CLA 200 Shooting Brake electric offers up to 511km of claimed WLTP range and 320kW DC fast charging.
The new third-generation Mercedes-Benz CLA Shooting Brake combines a distinctive wagon-meets-coupe body style with increased luggage space, advanced tech and a choice of mild-hybrid petrol or battery-electric power separated by just $2190.
Whereas the return of the CLA Shooting Brake nameplate – not seen since the first-generation CLA – is big news, these modern times have also brought the first all-electric Shooting Brake from Mercedes-Benz.
Offering a more practical take on the CLA formula without buyers needing to move to an SUV, both versions of the CLA 200 Shooting Brake are now on sale ahead of a local showroom arrival in January 2027, with the EV version priced from $72,990 plus on-road costs.
The CLA Shooting Brake electric will naturally be compared with the CLA electric sedan (or four-door coupe, as Mercedes describes it), while the Tesla Model 3 and forthcoming Zeekr 7GT and BMW i3 provide other alternatives for car buyers considering a premium electric passenger car rather than a mid-size SUV.
“Electric cars have typically gravitated towards small and medium SUVs as the most popular body styles, so there’s something refreshing about Mercedes-Benz applying its latest EV tech to a lower and more distinctive profile,” says RACV Motoring Editor Terry Martin. “It gives buyers another way to combine practicality and style with more car-like proportions, without having to default to an SUV or a so-called coupe-SUV.”
Here’s a guide to the new Mercedes-Benz CLA 200 Shooting Brake to help you decide whether it’s worth a closer look.

The EV version of the Mercedes-Benz CLA 200 Shooting Brake has a claimed 511km (WLTP) range.
What does the Mercedes-Benz CLA Shooting Brake look like?
The redesigned 2027 Mercedes-Benz CLA Shooting Brake takes the low, sporting proportions of the latest CLA four-door ‘coupe’ and extends its roof further towards the rear, creating an eye-catching profile while adding passenger space and significant extra luggage capacity.
The standard-fit AMG Line includes a sporty front apron, sculpted side skirts, rear apron and 18-inch AMG five-spoke alloy wheels for additional road presence.
The electric CLA model also gets its own visual signature with an illuminated front panel featuring 142 individually illuminated chrome-look LED stars that mimic the famous Mercedes-Benz logo.
What is the Mercedes-Benz CLA Shooting Brake’s electric range?
The Mercedes-Benz CLA 200 Shooting Brake electric offers up to 511km of claimed WLTP range from its 58kWh high-voltage battery. Mercedes-Benz quotes energy consumption of 13.2kWh/100km.
The EV’s rear-mounted electric motor produces 165kW and 335Nm, driving the rear wheels through a two-speed transmission designed to balance acceleration and efficiency. The first ratio assists acceleration at lower speeds, while the second is optimised for efficiency and performance at higher road speeds.
The electric drivetrain can also recuperate energy of up to 200kW under braking, according to the carmaker.
How fast can the Mercedes-Benz CLA Shooting Brake EV charge?
The Mercedes-Benz CLA 200 Shooting Brake electric uses an 800-volt electrical architecture and supports DC fast-charging at up to 320kW under optimal conditions. AC charging at up to 22kW is also available.
Handy for road trips, Mercedes-Benz’s so-called ‘Electric Intelligence’ can incorporate charging stops into a planned journey and prepare the battery ahead of a fast-charging stop, helping bring it to the optimum temperature for faster charging.

How much boot space does the Mercedes-Benz CLA Shooting Brake have?
The Mercedes-Benz CLA Shooting Brake offers 455 litres of boot space, expanding to 1290 litres with the rear seats folded.
The rear seats fold in a 40:20:40 configuration, while a maximum load width of 1418mm provides additional flexibility for larger items. An electric tailgate with hands-free use is standard.
The electric CLA 200 also adds a 101-litre frunk, providing substantial separate storage under the bonnet for charging cables, smaller bags, shopping or other items.
“The electric Shooting Brake makes sense for buyers who want more carrying capacity but don’t necessarily want to step up into an SUV,” says Martin. “It offers serious luggage space while retaining a lower, more distinctive shape that looks the goods as Mercedes does a U-turn in Australia and throws some weight back behind the traditional station wagon – combined with a high-tech EV powertrain.”

What is the Mercedes-Benz CLA Shooting Brake like inside?
The 2027 Mercedes-Benz CLA Shooting Brake uses the German carmaker’s latest digital architecture, underpinned by the new Mercedes-Benz Operating System (MB.OS).
MBUX navigation, 5G connectivity, wireless smartphone charging and smartphone integration are standard. An optional MBUX Superscreen combines the driver’s display, central infotainment touchscreen and dedicated front passenger display beneath a sweeping glass surface, giving the vehicle a full-width screen.
The latest MBUX also incorporates artificial intelligence from Microsoft and Google, which Mercedes-Benz says allows its Virtual Assistant to handle more natural, multi-part conversations and retain context when a conversation is interrupted and resumed.
The brand has also responded to customer feedback by returning physical controls to the multifunction sports steering wheel, including a rocker for the speed limiter and a roller for audio volume.
A panoramic glass roof is standard and uses heat-insulating glass with infrared-reflecting and low-emissivity coatings to help reduce heat entering the cabin during summer and retain warmth in winter.
