Frequently asked questions

What is an excess and what options are available?

If you need to make a claim, you might need to pay an excess. An excess is the amount you contribute towards a claim. You can read more about the different types of excesses in the Premium, Excess, Discounts and Benefits Guide.

When you take out your policy, you’re able to select from a variety of excess options. For a basic excess, you can choose from: $100, $200, $300, $500, $750, $1,000, $2,000, $3,000, $4,000, $5,000.

You can reduce your premium by choosing a higher basic excess.

How much should I insure my home and contents for?

To help you find out how much you need to insure you home and contents for, you can use the Buildings calculator, the Contents calculator or both. This provides an estimate value of the cost to to rebuild your home and replace your contents after an insured event, otherwise known as the sum insured.

The Building and Contents calculators are guides only and you need to make sure your sum insured will cover the full cost to rebuild your home and replace your contents. Otherwise you may have to pay the difference.
