What’s included with Comprehensive

Hire car for not-at-fault collisions or theft

Until your car is fixed or your claim is settled, whichever’s earliest. Up to $60 per day for 21 days maximum for theft, and no limit for not-at-fault collisions.#

Emergency transport and accommodation

For you, passengers and pets. Up to $1,000 total if your car is undriveable, and the incident was more than 100km from home in Australia.

Towing if you’re involved in an incident

Covers the cost of towing to a repairer or safe place, whichever’s closer.

New-for-new car replacement

Where available, if your car is up to 2 years old and is considered a total loss.~

Up to $20 million in liability cover

For claims against you for loss or damage to someone else’s vehicle or property.

Up to $500 for personal items

If they’re stolen with your car or damaged in an incident. Some exclusions apply.

No excess for windscreen damage

With this option, you won’t need to pay any excess if only your vehicle’s windscreen, window glass or sunroof is damaged after an incident.

Otherwise, you’ll need to pay excess in the event of damage.

Hire car after any incident

Your Comprehensive policy already includes hire car after not-at-fault collisions#, theft and attempted theft.

This option lets you add hire car for all insured events, no matter who's at fault. You'll get up to $60 per day for 14 days maximum, or until your car is fixed or the claim is settled - whichever’s earliest.

Add the option to choose any licenced repairer to fix your vehicle.

Without this option, your car will be repaired by an expert from our partner repair network.

If your car is damaged in an accident, like a collision.

Theft

If your things are stolen during a break-in or there’s damage caused by attempted theft.

Malicious act

Damage or loss from vandalism and other malicious acts, like if your car is keyed or your tyres are slashed.

Flood

Flood damage or loss caused by things like lakes, creeks, rivers, canals or dams.

Fire

Damage caused by fire (including petrol and battery fires).

Storm

Damage or loss caused by rain, hail, lightning, snow or wild winds.

With RACV Insurance, you can insure your car for the market value or agreed value, depending on your policy.

Market value

This is an assessment of your vehicle’s value at the time of an incident you’re making a claim for. It considers local market prices and the age and condition of your vehicle. You’ll get market value with these policies:

  • Comprehensive (choice of market or agreed value)
  • Third Party Fire and Theft
  • Third Party Property Damage

Agreed value

This is how much RACV Insurance agrees to insure your vehicle for during the term of your policy. You can choose from within a value range. You’ll get agreed value with these policies:

  • Complete Care®
  • Comprehensive (choice of agreed or market value)

Renewing your policy

RACV Insurance considers the changes in your vehicles agreed value using local market values. Check your renewal notice for any changes.

No matter who’s driving, RACV Motor Insurance covers all licensed drivers provided they meet policy conditions and have your permission to drive your vehicle.^

You don’t need to list all additional drivers using your vehicle, but it’s worth considering based on how frequently others drive it and any additional excesses that may apply to unlisted drivers.

Your car insurance premium may change if another driver is listed on your policy.

If an unlisted driver is found at fault for an incident while driving your vehicle, you may have to pay an additional excess on top of your basic excess.

Add drivers to your policy in the RACV App

  1. Download the RACV App
  2. Tap on ‘my products’
  3. Tap on your policy and then ‘view and manage policy’
  4. Under ‘Manage your policy’ tap ‘add, remove or edit drivers’
  5. Tap ‘edit’ and update driver details.

Add drivers to your policy in your online account

  1. Log in to your online account
  2. Click on your policy
  3. Scroll to ‘the drivers’ section
  4. Click ‘edit’ and update driver details.

You can choose your own repairer with Complete Care® Car Insurance, or you can add this option to Comprehensive Car Insurance policies. It’s not available with Third Party Car Insurance policies.


If you choose to arrange your own repairer, make sure you have selected an authorised repairer who meets industry standards. If anything goes wrong (like faulty work), it won’t be covered in your policy.

Using RACV’s Repair Network

Your RACV Car Insurance includes access to more than 90 high-quality partner repairers.

These businesses quote, assess and provide quality repairs for your car. Plus you’ll get a lifetime guarantee on workmanship of any repairs authorised by RACV Insurance, as long as you’re the owner of the vehicle.

^ Provided they meet policy conditions and have your permission to drive your vehicle. Additional excess applies to drivers under 25 or with less than 2 years' driving experience.

# RACV Insurance will pay hire car costs after a collision with another vehicle if RACV Insurance is satisfied you’re not at fault and you provide the details of the at-fault driver, including their name and residential address.

~ If you purchased a new or demonstrator vehicle weighing less than 2.5 tonnes, RACV Insurance considers it a total loss, a similar replacement vehicle is available in Australia and any credit provider noted on your Certificate of Insurance agrees. Further conditions apply. See the Product Disclosure Statement for details.
