Cutting waste, sourcing food locally and paying special attention to guests’ dietary requirements have helped RACV Cape Schanck Resort win joint Restaurant of the Year in Mornington Peninsula Shire’s Best Bites awards.
The food awards program judges local businesses on providing safe and healthy food, safe and accessible premises and using environmentally sustainable business practices.
RACV Cape Schanck Resort food and beverage manager Andrew Michalanney said the win was “brilliant” for the resort and would help set its focus over coming years.
“It’s the first time we entered and we got it.”
He said the resort’s ‘green team’ worked hard on reducing its environmental footprint by using worm farms, compost bins, cutting energy and water use and recycling and reusing where possible.
Healthy eating choices in The Restaurant and Golfers Lounge, and RACV resorts’ ‘mymenu’ program, which provides tailored menus for different dietary requirements, helped address food criteria.
The resort’s smoke-free outdoor dining areas, careful adherence to alcohol service regulations, and accessible facilities rounded out its efforts.
The resort shared the award with Woodman Estate Moorooduc.
