What does RACV Trailer Insurance cover?

With an RACV Trailer Insurance policy, you'll be covered for a range of events. Here’s a summary of what’s included: 

  • Loss or damage to your trailer caused by a collision, flood, fire, malicious act, storm, theft or attempted theft.
  • Towing from an incident to a safe place or the nearest repairer.
  • Up to $500 in emergency repairs following an incident.
  • Up to $1000 for contents cover which you can increase. ($500 limit applies for certain items or categories).
  • Liability cover up to $20 million for unintentional collision damage to someone else’s vehicle or property.

  • Loss or damage outside of Australia.
  • Cover for items inside or on your trailer, like tools, bikes or watercraft.

Do I need insurance to tow a trailer?

It is not a legal requirement to insure a trailer in Victoria. However, purchasing trailer insurance can help protect you from significant bills in the event your trailer causes damage to another vehicle, or in the event of damage or loss occurring to your trailer as a result of an insured event, like fire, flood, storm, theft or attempted theft.
