What's the difference between Emergency Roadside Assistance and Car Insurance?
Emergency Roadside Assistance provides breakdown support for mechanical issues and problems like flat batteries, punctured tyres and lockouts.
Car Insurance# is separate to Emergency Roadside Assistance.
Car Insurance provides cover for damage you may unintentionally cause to people’s properties or vehicles as a result of an accident on the road, as well as other listed events such as theft, vandalism or fire. It doesn't include Emergency Roadside Assistance cover.
Does roadside assistance include towing?
Yes, all levels of RACV Emergency Roadside Assistance include towing up to a specified kilometre range or to the nearest attending RACV Service Centre. Here’s a summary:
- Roadside Care: 20km
- Extra Care: 60km
- Total Care: 100km
Towing beyond the kilometre limit or beyond the RACV Service Centre may result in an additional out-of-pocket cost.
Are other drivers and vehicles covered by my subscription?
It depends on your level of cover.
With Roadside Care and Extra Care, your roadside assistance covers your one nominated vehicle. You can add other vehicles at an extra cost.
If you have Total Care, your roadside assistance covers you, and anyone driving your nominated vehicle. You're also covered in any other eligible car you drive.
Plus, caravans and trailers are covered when towed by your nominated vehicle, or any car you're driving.
Can I change my nominated vehicle?
Yes, you can. Call us on 13 RACV to change your vehicle.
How long does roadside assistance take?
Usually, we’ll have someone out to help you within an hour of your call. However, sometimes the time it takes for help to arrive may vary depending on how great the demand for assistance is at any one time.
Am I covered if I drive interstate?
You may be able to get roadside assistance from our interstate affiliates. If your needs aren’t covered by our affiliates, we may pay to have someone attend your vehicle or tow it somewhere to be repaired – make sure you call us first so we can authorise this for you.
