Frequently asked questions

You can purchase travel insurance as early as you like. Depending on the policy you choose, some policies include cancellation cover that usually starts immediately after you purchase the policy. If you’ve already paid for part of your holiday, this could help cover you for unexpected cancellations or departure interruptions. For full details, please refer to the combined PDS/FSG and review each section for specific terms, conditions, exclusions, limits, and sub-limits, as well as any general exclusions that apply.

About to head on a trip? No worries - you can take out an RACV Travel Insurance policy online, right before you go.

You won't be able to take out a policy if your trip has already started.

You should make a claim as soon as possible.

You’ll need your personal information and information about the incident you are claiming for. This might include documentation of medical treatment, police reports for stolen items, receipts and proof of ownership.

RACV Travel Insurance covers 38 medical conditions automatically, provided you meet specific criteria.~
Check which medical conditions are covered

If you have a medical condition that isn’t automatically covered, you can apply for cover by completing a medical assessment. If accepted, you may need to pay an additional premium.

Refer to combined PDS/FSG for full information on medical conditions that are automatically covered.

Update your policy
If you’ve made a mistake with your policy, please call as soon as possible so your details can be reviewed and updated, if possible.

Extend your policy
You can extend your policy at no extra cost if you experience a delay that’s covered by your policy. If you need to extend your policy for other reasons, you must apply for an extension before it expires. If your extension is approved you may need to pay an additional premium. The combined period of insurance cannot exceed 12 months. Refer to the Product Disclosure Statement for more details.

Cancel your policy
You have 21 days from the purchase date to decide if the policy suits your needs. If it doesn't, you can cancel within the "cooling-off period" for a full refund, provided you:

  • haven't started your trip;
  • haven’t made a claim; and
  • don’t intend to make a claim or exercise any other rights under your policy.

You can also request your policy to be cancelled outside of the 21-day “cooling-off period”. You’ll need to meet the above criteria. Your request will be reviewed and is subject to approval.

You can call 13 13 29 or email care@racv.com.au to discuss changes or to cancel your policy.
