Better benefits for roadside assistance members

RACV Roadside assistance helps a stranded couple

Higher taxi allowances, accommodation allowances and tow weight limits are among a suite of improved benefits for Emergency Roadside Assistance (ERA) members to come into effect on 1 August.

The establishment fee for non-members will also be removed, saving new members $34 – making ERA more affordable to join.

Taxi allowances for all levels of care will increase, with Total Care rising to $100 per trip, Extra Care to $80 per trip and Roadside Care to $60 per trip. Accommodation assistance has also increased to $150 per night for members with Total Care and Extra Care and $130 per night for those with Roadside Care.

Further changes have been made to simplify our product range. The benefits of RACV Tow Pack will be included for all Extra Care and Total Care members, meaning that vehicles with trailers or caravans up to eight tonnes will be towed. Roadside Care will also benefit from this increase, now allowing a tow for vehicles up to four tonnes.

Gordon Oakley, RACV general manager of motoring, says the ERA changes, which are based on members’ feedback, will make it easier for members to understand and access benefits when they break down. “The increase in towing benefits across the range gives members the peace of mind they need when on the road ,” he says.

RACV has also removed rarely used features from some ERA packages, such as personal effects and clothing cover, fatal injury benefit, and legal assistance, which can be accessed through more suitable insurance products.

“We want to make these products simpler with clear options, so members have access to great services that don’t break the bank ,” Gordon says.

There are three Emergency Roadside Assistance packages, all providing 24/7 breakdown assistance, nationwide. Roadside Care ($105 per year from 1 August) covers the essentials and is great for those who mainly drive in metropolitan areas. Extra Care ($172 per year from 1 August) features extended towing options suiting those who travel into regional areas. Total Care ($236 per year from 1 August) is RACV’s top-of-the-range package with exceptional benefits – ideal for those wanting total peace of mind or who travel a long way from home.
