Do I need to insure a caravan?

While it’s not a legal requirement to insure a caravan in Victoria, buying insurance can offer peace of mind when the unexpected happens.

While both RACV Complete Care® and RACV Comprehensive Car Insurance policies provide up to $1000 towards repairing damage to your trailer or caravan in the event of an incident – it is only if the loss or damage has occurred while the caravan or trailer was attached to or being towed by your vehicle. This cover excludes damage to the contents of the trailer or caravan and doesn’t cover when the caravan is detached from your vehicle.

Therefore, it’s important to consider the type of insurance you have, how you use your caravan or trailer, and whether or not you require cover for the contents of your caravan or trailer.

What is Caravan Insurance?

Caravan Insurance provides a level of financial cover for a range of events, including collision damage, fire, theft, storm and more. There are two different types of RACV Caravan Insurance policies available. Onsite Caravan Insurance for when you’re staying in one spot and Touring Caravan Insurance for when you’re on the move.

* The Multi-Policy Discount and Years of Membership Benefits exclude Travel, Business and Farm Insurance products. To qualify for the Multi-Policy Discount, you must hold two eligible RACV Insurance policies. For further details, see the Premium, Excess and Discounts guide at racv.com.au. Discounts will only be applied until any applicable minimum premium is reached. On renewal, any increases or decreases in your premium may be limited by factors such as your previous year’s premium. You may not save more with more eligible policies and by staying with RACV Insurance longer if a minimum premium is reached, or limits have been applied to increases or decreases in your premium.
