Car wheel on country road

RACV Car Insurance has lifted the taxi benefits for claimants and will now cover the cost of a hire car while your car is being repaired in some circumstances.

This means that if you have a crash, you are covered for a taxi ride from an RACV Partner Repairer when you drop off your car and for a taxi ride back to the partner repairer to pick up your car (up to $80 each way).

If you are not ‘at fault’ in the collision and can provide the details of the driver who was at fault, RACV will also arrange and cover the costs of a hire car for you for the duration of your repair. This is a new benefit we provide under your RACV Comprehensive Motor Insurance policy and RACV is one of the first Australian car insurance providers to offer this.

If you are ‘at fault’ and you haven’t added the hire car option to your policy, we can still help with your transport needs while your car is being repaired – you may be able to access RACV’s special hire car rates, starting from $34 a day.

Alternatively, the simplest solution is to choose the hire car option as part of your RACV car insurance and we’ll arrange and cover the cost of a hire car for you for any type of incident, for up to 14 days (up to $60 per day).

Mark Geraghty, RACV’s general manager of motor insurance, says RACV has made these policy improvements following member feedback which indicated the biggest issue they faced was managing their transport needs while their car was being repaired.

“Members have told us that not having a car available was a disruption for them – members often couldn’t do their shopping, school runs or get to work,” Mark says.

“These new benefits ensure normal life can continue while an RACV Partner Repairer gets your car back on the road, plus you have the peace of mind knowing that, with RACV, all workmanship undertaken to repair your vehicle is guaranteed for as long as you own the vehicle.”
