You have the flexibility to choose when you buy your cover.
You can choose to buy travel insurance as soon as you pay for any part of your trip. This means you're covered in case your trip is cancelled due to unforeseen circumstances.
You can also choose to get RACV Travel Insurance online right before you go. Even if you're just about to leave there's still time to pack an RACV Travel Insurance policy for your trip.

You’ll need your personal information and information about the incident your are claiming for. This might include documentation of medical treatment, police reports for stolen items, receipts and proof of ownership.

If you have a medical condition that isn’t automatically covered, you can apply for cover by completing a medical assessment. If accepted, you may need to pay an additional premium.

RACV Travel Insurance provides some automatic cover for a person who is pregnant, if the pregnancy is:
- 25 weeks or less
- a single, non-complicated pregnancy.
Pregnancy is classed as a medical condition. You may need to disclose your pregnancy when buying your policy.

Update your policy
If you’ve made a mistake with your policy, please contact us as soon as possible. We’ll review the details and update the policy if possible.
Extend your policy
You can extend your policy at no extra cost if you experience a delay that’s covered by your policy. If you need to extend your policy for other reasons, you must apply for an extension before it expires. If your extension is approved you may need to pay an additional premium. The combined period of insurance cannot exceed 12 months. Refer to the Product Disclosure Statement for more details.
Cancel your policy
You have 21 days from the purchase date to decide if the policy suits your needs. If it doesn't, you can cancel within the "cooling-off period" for a full refund, provided you:
- haven't started your trip
- haven’t made a claim
- don’t intend to make a claim.
You can also request your policy to be cancelled outside of the 21-day “cooling-off period”. You’ll need to meet the above criteria. Your request will be reviewed and is subject to approval.
